Setting Up a Custom Domain Name on Media Temple

I recommend that you read Tumblr’s “Using a custom domain name” page before you read this post.

Setting up a custom domain name for Tumblr on Media Temple is actually easy. All you need to do is follow these steps:

  1. Login to the AccountCenter (If your domain or subdomain name is already added, skip to #5 after you login).
  2. Click on the DOMAINS tab.
  3. Click on the Add New Domain button.
  4. Add a domain or subdomain name by following the instructions on the screen.
  5. Click on your Primary Domain.
  6. Under the Domain Tools section, click Edit DNS Zone File.
  7. Click on the + Add a record button.
  8. Fill out the fields. (Name: *domain or subdomain name*; Type: A; Data: 72.32.231.8)
  9. Click on the Save button.

You can test your domain by using Tumblr’s Custom Domain Test (You may need to wait for the change to take effect). If the domain is set up properly, you should see the Tumblr home page when you visit your domain.

Now log in to Tumblr and click Customize. Under the “Info” settings, check off “Use a custom domain name”, and enter your custom domain (ie. “mywebsite.com”). Click “Save Changes”.

You’re done! You should now see your tumblelog when you visit your domain. I hope this helps! (:
